In the fourth quarter of 2022, a whopping eight locum tenens staffing agencies joined the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO).
It’s unclear whether this figure represents record quarterly membership growth for NALTO, but suffice it to say that staffing agencies – even those that traditionally haven’t staffed locums physicians – want to get in on the blistering growth of the industry in the post-pandemic era.
As the voice of the locum tenens industry, NALTO is dedicated to upholding the highest ethical practices in the locum tenens industry. Members receive valuable benefits, such as risk management resources, shared marketing materials, as well as updates on federal and state legislation, ethics, arbitration guidelines, and credentialing standards.Locumpedia reached out to these new NALTO members to learn more about their origin stories, the niche they’re carving for themselves, and their goals for 2023.
Women, Minorities, and Docs Represent
These eight agencies bring diverse backgrounds and expertise to the table. Of the new members, three are women- and doctor-owned. Six represent communities of color, and three specialize in anesthesiology, psychiatry, or radiology. One member focuses on hospitalist and emergency medicine placements, while another member is a seasoned veteran in the locum tenens industry who recently started their own company.

CI Health Group was founded in 2017 in Coppell, Texas. The firm offers physician recruitment, healthcare consulting, advanced practice recruitment, and retention solutions, including locum tenens and permanent opportunities.
ConTemporary Locums is a San Diego-based company founded in 2022 by Sigrid Boring, a seasoned healthcare staffing industry professional. ConTemporary is a woman-owned and -operated company. Boring previously served as a founding member of Host Healthcare, recognized as one of the largest and fastest-growing companies by SIA in 2022. She also established Locums Unlimited in 2015, which Aya Healthcare acquired in 2018.
Chicago Telerad, an independent teleradiology practice, was founded in South Barrington, Illinois, in 2017 by Dr. Faisal A. Sami, a board-certified diagnostic radiologist. The company provides radiology reading services and comprises board-certified radiologists and associates. They also offer opportunities for externships and rotations with the goal of receiving US Clinical Experience.
Critical Access Network, established in 2015 by Tanesha Boldin in Alpharetta, Georgia, provides physician and mid-level recruiting, strategic planning sessions, locum tenens and permanent staffing solutions, and global health mission trips.
Boldin, CEO of the firm, says she joined NALTO to participate in industry discussions and support health leaders in finding resources and strategies to provide value-based, equitable, and accessible patient care. Boldin states that the company’s goals this year are to expand and secure more federal contracts, focusing on delivering efficient recruiting solutions for multi-state medical licenses to improve patient care.
Jogan Health, established in Englewood, Colorado, in 2020 by Dan Dietrich, was founded to assist healthcare communities facing overwhelming challenges during the pandemic with healthcare staffing solutions and COVID-19 vaccinations and testing.
The company provides mass care support during incidents, core and emergency staffing, public health and epidemiology services, and program operation, product, and technology solutions for the US and global markets, including locum tenens opportunities. With a 7-step screening process when placing and matching healthcare facilities with caregivers, the company claims to have the lowest turnover rate in the industry.
MedLinkhealth Anesthesia was founded in 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland, by Dr. David Mwaura. MedLink provides comprehensive healthcare management solutions from staffing, recruiting, and billing to anesthesia services and continuous improvement initiatives across the country. MedLink also offers locum tenens opportunities. The company’s clientele includes clinicians, hospitals, dental and pain clinics, and more.
Monroe & Weisbrod, a psychiatry-focused staffing firm based in Austin, Texas, was founded by Bo Claypool in 2012 and is currently led by CEO Celeste Madison, who has over a decade of psychiatry recruitment experience. The company offers a range of services in permanent placement, locum tenens psychiatry, and telepsychiatry for small private practices, community mental health centers to large hospital conglomerates.
Prime Physicians, a physician-led and focused organization, was founded in 2014 by Dr. Chakri Pureti in Sioux City, Iowa. The organization primarily provides hospital medicine, emergency departments, and telemedicine services. They also offer credentialing, medical billing, and staffing solutions.
Is Eight Enough?
The addition of eight NALTO members underscores the vital role of the locum tenens staffing model in delivering quality healthcare coverage where it’s needed most. These new members bring diverse backgrounds to the industry, helping bring new perspectives to the evolving healthcare marketplace.
With the locum tenens industry project to grow by another billion dollars or so in 2023, it will be worth watching whether the ranks of NALTO grow commensurately. Stay tuned!
