Job Description

Medstaff is seeking Emergency Medicine physicians for Locum shifts in Monroe, Louisiana.  Physicians must be BC in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

Start Date: ASAP, 30-60 day timeframe for privileging
Length: 6-months, ongoing

Shifts required: 6 – 8 shifts per month; must be comfortable working days or nights

Details:

  • Hospital with busy, high acuity ED, provisional Level III Trauma Center 
  • Annual volume is 54,000
  • EM Physician to see an average of 2.0 patients per hour.
  • Scribes are available 24/7 for EM Physicians.
  • ED setup is a high acuity zone and slightly lower acuity zone in the main ED.
    • High acuity zone staffed by physicians 24/7.
    • Lower acuity zone is staffed by a physician 11a-11p and staffed by APPs at other times.
  • There are 6 rapid assessment area beds that house some ESI Level patients and this area is staffed by the APP with a scribe.
  • There are additional holding beds (5) and triage beds (2) for lower acuity patients where they move discharge patients quickly. These are staffed by additional APPs with their “Provider in Triage” model.

APPs are highly skilled and will do suturing, incision and drainages, etc. APPs practice independently with physician oversight/help upon request. 

Credentials: Active Louisiana medical license and DEA required. Must be Board certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
