National Hospital Week has deep roots. It began in 1921 as National Hospital Day, a way to rebuild public trust in hospitals after the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. By 1953, it had expanded into a weeklong celebration, aligning with Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12 to honor her revolutionary contributions to modern nursing and hospital care.
